Um, can we still get Tang?!

Karsten and I both hope to become space tourists someday. Presently, we're just waiting for Bill Gates to purchase our blog for $1 billion ticket fares to come down a little. We're facinated by the prospect of looking out on our home planet, experiencing weightlessness, and sampling the latest in astronaut cuisine.

I recently visited the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C., where I saw an actual tin of chipped beef used by the Apollo astronauts who went to the moon. I'm sure chipped beef was super yummy back in the 60's, but I hope NASA has an expanded menu when Karsten and I kick back and open our astronaut lunch boxes. After all, I heard they recently updated the kitchen on the International Space Station...uh oh, this does not sound promising.

"NASA announced yesterday that the recently installed urine and sweat recycling system on the International Space Station (ISS) has begun to churn out good, potable water, fit for consumption in orbit and terrestrially."

Looks like Karst' and I are going to have to sneak some Capri Sun's onto the launch pad.

Conversation

Yesterday as I was running errands and driving in the car with my kids this is one of the conversations I overheard between my kids.

Taeg': "Mommy, will you unbuckle my seatbelt so I can get down and get the toy I dropped?"

Karst': "Taeg', we don't unbuckle while the car is moving because if Mom needs to stop fast then we would fly into the window and crack our heads. Then the police will come and give Mom a ticket because we crashed, then we will have to find a lot of money to pay for the ticket, but we don't have money because we are trying to be debt free, so the police man will take us to jail where all the dirty & naughty people go."

Taeg': "How naughty?"

Karst': "Hmm... naughty like Darth Vader. He always cuts off people's heads and arms but never says sorry. Mom do you think Darth Vader is in jail because he is naughty?"

Me: "Yes, I suppose Darth Vader should be in jail."

Karst': "Mom, did you know that when Darth Vadar takes off his helmet his name is Toby?"

I guess I never thought my kid(s) ever listen to me. A few weeks ago while Trav' was out of town we had a little discussion on safety and why it is important. I listen to a Dave Ramsey podcast during lunch and Karsten usually asks when we are going to call and scream...... So I try to take a moment and talk about how his Dad works hard to earn money and how we shouldn't go buy silly stuff that we can not afford. Taegan is our typical 2 year old with a 16 year old vocabulary and just wants to know 'how naughty'? I am pretty sure, she will not be as naughty as Darth Vader but I swear she tries to take a step closer everyday! When did my 4 your old see Star Wars? And who is Toby?

DU

This post is for my long lost hubby. Does your cut & color look as good as mine?

It has been a while since I have had a 'professional' du. The family pic at the top is fairly recent so you can see that it was getting long and crazy. While I was sitting under the dryer, I enjoyed my 'adult' time to myself but when it was over I quickly realized why I had waited so long when I handed over a huge wad of cash. I will not regret it. It was long over due. But I still could have purchased a new table saw or miter saw blade or even a great router bit for that price. Anywho. Travis you better say it is the best haircut I have ever had and I will do the same when I see you.

Boring

It has been a very slow last few weeks, so I have been able to catch up on some things that were long over due.

Our oven has not been cleaned since we moved over 2 years ago. I wish I had a good excuse... I guess I kept thinking we were going to get a new one so why clean this one. My mother-in-law used to say that she wished "they would train monkeys for this kind of stuff". I could have used a trained monkey for this job. But it is sparkling now, so I don't have to think about it for another 2 years... or maybe we will just buy a self-cleaning one that is large enough for a 9x13 pan.

I switched garbage company's. I didn't save any money, I guess I just wanted to give the new guys in town a chance.

Travis would call this passive aggressive behavior or just "sticking it to the man" either way the kids are happy because the guy that dropped off the new cans gave them a mini version. Karsten is obsessed with it and wants to take it everywhere. Taeg' loved it for a few minutes but then found something shiny to play with like the feather duster.

Travis and I make a pretty good team. He has somesorta internet magic, so he can find anything about anything in about 19 seconds. My part of the team work is that I love to get my hands dirty. So when something breaks down, Travis researches the life out of it, orders the parts and then hands it to me to install.

Karsten recently brought it to my attention that his clothes looked 'stainy' (he is like his father and likes to be clean and dry). I knew the washer agitator was on its way out, but I guess it wasn't working at all now. Our washer was a wedding present 10 years ago, it has served us well but it makes noises that can wake the dead sometimes. Every time it tries to quit, Travis and I go look around at the new ones. They are shiny and sleek, then we look at the price tag so we decide to fix it one more time. Travis wasn't around to do his end, so I had to research it and find the part without calling the repairman. After 2.5 freak'n hours of reading (cursing Trav' the whole time) and searching in the middle of the night, I discovered the problem. It took me 3 minutes to get the tools and take it apart, and 10 minutes to pick up the new part and reinstall the new one. I am glad that I was able to fix it so our clothes are not 'stainy'.

The broken part is called dogs, no wonder why they break.

The end.
